A depressive state is a consequence of a violation of the neural connections of the brain, therefore, it sometimes requires the intervention of doctors. However, there are ways to relieve or prevent depression on your own.
Instructions
Step 1
Don't get hung up on any one issue or unfortunate area of your life. If you can't let go of an alarming situation for you and switch to the other side, try to at least look at your life more broadly, more objectively. There are several of the most important areas: friendship, love, health, money, work and hobbies. It cannot be that everything is equally bad and hopeless in everything. Even if you just realize that you are exaggerating the problem, thereby belittling the achievements and advantages in some other side of life, it will be easier on your soul.
Step 2
Unpleasant thoughts and depression can appear trite from boredom. Try to be busy all the time. Creative activities reduce stress levels. If you fully engage in routine affairs, they will also distract from unhappy thoughts. So, in order not to succumb to depression, you need more conscious activity and hobbies.
Step 3
Self-deprecating thoughts can lead to depression. People who are overly self-critical are the most vulnerable to stress. If you reprimand yourself for a mistake, imagine that it was made by a person you love very much, your friend, or an example to follow. Consider whether you would be as strict with him as you would with yourself, or you would have graciously forgiven the offense. This exercise also helps: imagine that you are being harshly and unfairly criticized by a person you hate, or a villain without moral principles. Your self-defense mechanism should work, and you will realize that you were wasting yourself. And if you think bad about yourself all the time, depression really won't keep you waiting.
Step 4
Allow yourself to make mistakes, be imperfect, even, perhaps, be an outsider in some area. A person who wants to be an example in everything, the first, the winner, experiences tremendous stress. It has an extremely adverse effect on the psyche, even with victory and universal recognition. And even if it fails, it can break a person.
Step 5
Praising yourself and appreciating what you have is important not only for self-esteem, but also for mental well-being. How can a person who is satisfied with themselves and their reality get depressed? The implementation of this advice is hindered by society, which is now tangibly crushed by the alleged need to strive for self-development, material benefits, and improvement in its appearance. In such an environment, it is difficult to be satisfied with yourself. But if you understand that the mechanism is triggered by other people's values, it is easier to deal with it.
