People tend to make mistakes, which is why they spend so much time in order to avoid these mistakes. But is it intuition, past experience, or other gathered data to rely on for the art of making good decisions?
Instructions
Step 1
We often make mistakes in life and make decisions that we have to regret. This often translates into unnecessary waste, wasted time and bad mood. No one will be able to completely avoid mistakes; according to statistics, people make wrong decisions with about the same probability as correct ones. But with the help of fairly simple techniques, you can better look at your decisions and analyze them.
Step 2
What is the reason for making the wrong decisions? Often it is created due to the so-called "spotlight effect". A person directs his attention only to one side of the problem and forms his opinion only about those facts that are clearly visible to him. He does not go into details, does not understand the problem deeply, does not see its other sides and does not look at the problem from a different angle. He seems to grab pieces of the puzzle from the darkness. In this case, it is impossible to solve the problem correctly, or it will be done with a high percentage of errors.
Step 3
In order to make more informed decisions on a specific issue, you need to consider the problem from all sides, and with an open mind and honesty, regardless of how you feel about its negative sides. A deeper consideration of the issue will eliminate the possible risks of failure and, accordingly, increase the percentage of successful solutions.
Step 4
In the event that you have to choose the best from several options, prefer to have a large number of various solutions to the problem to choose from. Typically, people want to minimize variability as much as possible, since they find it difficult to make decisions with many variables. But therein lies the problem: when there is only one or two options at stake, the probability of error is very high. By weighing several ideas or solutions to a problem in your mind, you are more likely to notice mistakes or shortcomings in one of them.
Step 5
Step back from the way of solving a problem or choosing an option, look at them differently, as if you really need to find the right way as soon as possible. Usually people from the very beginning give preference to any one option and do not allow themselves to think wider. Think about whether this method will be so good in the future that it will help change for you in 10 hours, 10 months and even 10 years. This is especially helpful for global decisions that will have an impact over the years.
Step 6
Often the reason for the wrong decisions is the overconfidence of people in their rightness. Do not allow this in your behavior, otherwise you will have to face frequent mistakes. It is better to assume that you can be mistaken and to do this once again think about the problem, checking the next solution. Do not sweep aside the unfavorable outcomes of the situation in advance - do not let the wrong decision take you by surprise.
