Intuition in the ordinary sense does not fully correspond to the socionic understanding of intuition. Although these concepts overlap, they are not alien to each other. But intuition in the usual sense of the word, as we used to use it, is present in people of the sensory type too. They, like intuitives, can be visited by premonitions, guesses, and insights. But with people of the intuitive type, this happens more often and brighter.

Intuition as a function in socionics

Intuition in socionics is responsible for a person's contact with the world of ideas and states that cannot be perceived through the senses (vision, hearing, touch, etc.).

The objects with which intuition works (namely, images, ideas, states) defy definition in terms of the sensory world. Intuition operates with such concepts as probability, prediction, foresight, premonition, vague sensation, vision (as opposed to direct sensory contact), essence, meaning, subtle feeling, assumption, modeling, etc.

Features of people of an intuitive type

Due to the sensory ambiguity of intuitive material, people of the intuitive type sometimes have difficulty in verbally expressing what is in their minds or in their souls. There are also difficulties with argumentation of one's opinion: intuition simply sees or feels, but cannot explain.

Since intuitions are directed to the world of ideas, then often the sensory side of life suffers from them: they can be somewhat disheveled, awkward, scattered, unprofitable. They are less oriented in the world of things, it is more difficult to get used to new things, whether it be new food or new clothes, it is more difficult to give up old familiar things.

Various funny stories about how a raven man counts or crosses the road at a red traffic light, deeply thinking about something of his own, or does not notice acquaintances, even when faced with them nose to nose - these are almost always stories about intuitions.

Extroverted and introverted intuition

Intuition in socionics is extroverted (black) and introverted (white).

Extraverted intuition in the structure of the socionic type forces a person to pay attention to the patterns in the development of the world and a person, the prospects of movement, mechanisms and objective processes. Black-intuitive types in socionics include the following types: Huxley, Don Quixote, Robespierre, Dostoevsky.

Introverted intuition makes a person turn deep within himself, into the core of the human soul. White intuites are well oriented in the states of the human psyche, are able to look deeply into it, to feel in it all new layers of states and shades. The white-intuitive types in socionics include the following types: Balzac, Yesenin, Hamlet, Jack London.
