Each person has some life values and priorities. Some of them are quite typical, others are relatively rare. At the same time, the analysis of these values allows us to say a lot about a person.
In many teachings, it is believed that a person consists of body, soul and spirit. Human values are also shared in accordance with this. Some of them are aimed exclusively at satisfying the needs of the body, the second are designed to calm and please the soul, the task of the third is to develop the spiritual principle in a person.
Based on this division, three categories of people can be distinguished. For some, it is bodily pleasures that are the measure of all things. Delicious food, pleasant sleep, sensual pleasures form the basis of their life. The interests of such people are limited to a narrow circle of bodily needs, by nature they are usually greedy, envious, striving for wealth and luxury.
Soulful people have a finer organization. Everything that is ranked as universal human values fully meets their needs; the overwhelming majority of people belong to this category. For them, love, family, friendship, good relationships, etc. are important. etc. They find the most important thing for themselves in what surrounds them, what is close and dear to them.
Spiritual people constitute a very special category. It is often said about them that they are not of this world. They are not attracted by the joys and pleasures familiar to most people, they are far from worldly pleasures. The interests of these people lie on a completely different plane - spiritual. They understand other people very well, they are perfectly versed in human motivation. In the overwhelming majority of cases, such people find refuge in the mainstream of one religion or another - in particular, they become priests or monks.
At this level, a person looks at the world in a completely different way. He sees it more deeply, more voluminously, he has access to the vision of causes and effects hidden from the eye of an ordinary person. It was such people who at all times were revered as saints, they were drawn to them for help and advice. Rejecting ordinary worldly values, they found spiritual values for themselves, often completely incomprehensible to the layman. At this level, a person is especially acutely aware of his imperfection, his main goal is striving for God. Realizing that one cannot come to God with a dirty soul, the ascetic directs all his efforts to cleanse the soul from dirt and passions.
It is easy to see that there is no one universal value that could unite all people. It could be called love, but for someone it will be just an empty phrase. Therefore, each person has to independently choose for what and how to live.
