Willpower is a complex concept, which means the ability to convince yourself, coupled with good motivation. This quality makes people do what they don't want to do in order to achieve the goal. There are many tips on how to build willpower, but ultimately it all comes down to how motivated a person is towards a goal.
Instructions
Step 1
Since the development of willpower primarily depends on motivation, form a strong desire in yourself. Think about why you need to strengthen this quality, what it will give you and how it will help you. If you clearly understand the goal, then there will be a strong enough motivation to work on yourself. To enhance the effect, write down the benefits you get after exercising your willpower, such as quitting smoking, losing weight, and doing well in school.
Step 2
Willpower training involves fighting habits and established lifestyles. Avoid habitual actions, try to change your behavior every time during repetitive situations. Bring creative ideas into your routine. By disrupting the established order, you force yourself to think more and do more, which trains willpower.
Step 3
Always try to do a little more than you need to. As you read the book, read one more page after you decide to finish. While jogging, do another lap when the norm has already been completed. Developing this habit of doing more is a good exercise for willpower.
Step 4
Respect your decisions and opinions. If you have set a goal and made a commitment to go all the way, always keep that in mind. Before quitting, consider your responsibilities to yourself. Remind yourself that if you fail, your word is worthless and you can't even trust yourself. This will spur motivation and make you move on.
Step 5
Don't give up on things you have failed at. Remember, failures do not upset people who are strong, they teach them. Go on, try again and again, increasing ambition and increasing desire. Remember that building willpower is not accomplished in a matter of days. It's a long process that shouldn't stop after failure. If you are defeated, tell yourself that you have become stronger and more disciplined, so it will be easier further on.
Step 6
Try to connect with strong, motivated, and positive people. The environment affects the person who has a tendency to adapt to others. When dealing with depressed, broken, tired people, you will not find the strength to develop.
Step 7
Practice meditation. This activity is a great willpower exercise. At first it will be difficult not to give up and keep trying to meditate, but you must silence your mind.
