Sometimes procrastination is confused with laziness. And this is not surprising: both the one and the other have the same result: unfulfilled homework, unfinished report, unfinished term paper. The list is endless. The common feature of everything listed in it will be the lack of the expected result. However, laziness differs from this phenomenon in that it is an almost complete unwillingness to work, a tendency to parasitism and indolence. In the case of procrastination, everything is slightly different, which will be discussed in more detail below.

The root of all evil

There are several reasons explaining why a person does not solve their problems as they become available, but postpones them indefinitely. Most often these are various psychological barriers:

  1. Emotional discomfort. In this case, a person understands that the business he needs to do is unpleasant for one reason or another, and therefore does not start at once.
  2. Uncertainty. The fear of failure is what causes people to not only postpone the most important tasks, but also refuse to complete them in principle. However, if the work is obligatory and it is impossible not to do it in any way, the person all the time postpones the implementation of this task, because he is afraid to do something wrong.
  3. Lack of a schedule and work plan. The peculiarity of those who are susceptible to this phenomenon is that they often do their jobs at the last moment. They say that they have too little time to do everything, but in fact the opposite is true. They just do not have a clear plan of action and motivation to be in time, so instead of doing what is really important, the procrastinator is distracted by something insignificant.
  4. The task assigned to the person is not important the way he sees it. Sometimes it can be completely uninteresting. In this case, there is a lack of motivation.
  5. The procrastinator feels that he is losing control of his life and is at the mercy of other people and their interests. This leads to uncertainty, anxiety, and because of this, there is a fear of correcting the situation that has arisen.

How to start fighting procrastination

Before you start to deal with this problem, you need to realize that it really exists and interferes with living on. We all know that people are divided into those who take and do, and those who leave for later everything that is unpleasant or not interesting to them. A person should ask himself the question: is it really important and necessary for him to do what he is doing at the moment? Here are a few tips on how to get organized and start taking down procrastination.

  1. Set a goal for yourself. In order to move forward, you need to clearly see in front of you what you want to come to. It is best to write it down on paper or save it electronically.
  2. Divide one large goal into several smaller ones. If this is not done, then your potential achievements may seem too distant and impracticable. As you achieve smaller goals, you will be motivated to work harder over and over again in order to achieve much more.
  3. Make a list of what is not yet complete. This way you can make it easier for yourself to reach your goal. The thing is that a lot of things have accumulated in your life baggage that does not allow you to go forward, and sometimes even pushes you back a few steps. When you lighten your "burden", then going forward will become easier and more enjoyable.
  4. Determine the importance of what you do to yourself. If you don't like work, and you are not interested in a second foreign language, then you should decide what is more important for you - to do what you like, or to receive a monetary reward, because of which you most likely will never be able to completely get rid of the habit of postponing things for Then.
  5. Set the minimum that you can definitely master, and try to follow it at first. Gradually, you can start to increase the load.

If you understand why you can't do everything on time and follow the tips given above, then you can not only help yourself, but also significantly increase your self-esteem, achieving everything that you have in mind.
