Scientists have tried to find out why many women are afraid of small and defenseless mice. Experts have come to the conclusion that human genetic memory is to blame. But not only her.
For a long time, the official reasons for the origin of this phobia remained in the shadows. However, not so long ago, scientists carried out a detailed analysis that bore fruit. It turns out that female fear of mice is inextricably linked with the ancient history of the coexistence of rodents and humans.
Time-tested fear
Experts are sure that human genetic memory is to blame. The fact is that ancient people lived in caves. Naturally, rats and mice coexisted side by side with them. Rodents constantly stole food from humans, harmed women and children by biting them.
Since men were mainly engaged in hunting, women had to protect children from harmful rodents, taking all the "blows" on themselves. There was practically no one to protect women.
For people who are calm about rodents, domestic mice can deliver a lot of pleasant minutes. The fact is that some rodents can sing, issuing trills, reminiscent of the songs of robin birds.
In addition, cavemen experienced a constant lack of food, and cunning rats managed to take the last away from them. One can imagine the horror of this led the keepers of the home. Unwittingly, they developed a fear of rodents.
Mouse as a child phobia
Whatever it was, but the version with a phobia, laid down from childhood, has not yet been canceled. It can be called the second major version of the fear of rodents on the part of some women. The fact is that little girls sometimes become involuntary witnesses of such a picture: a nimble mouse runs out from under the sofa, which scares her mother half to death. Mom is screaming, the girl is crying.
This story gets its continuation when dad comes home. Parents begin to argue and swear, figuring out the reason why the mice come from in their house. Mom accuses father of uncleanliness - socks scattered around the house, crumbs of food, etc. Dad, in turn, reproaches the mother for staying at home and unable to learn how to fight mice.
The little girl sees and hears everything from day to day. It is not surprising that with age, a child develops and consolidates a phobia of rodents. After all, do not forget that a child's psyche is precarious. Therefore, even the smallest and most harmless mouse can become a real stress for an already grown-up young girl.
The "Rat King" is a tangle of tightly intertwined rats, numbering fifty individuals. This shaggy "ball" lives at the expense of its other relatives, since it cannot move itself. For scientists, this is still a mystery.
Fear or disgust?
For some women, mice, by their appearance, cause, rather, not fear, but disgust. For example, some girls cannot stand the color of mouse hair. The paws and tails of rodents are also disgusting to them.
There is a category of women who are disgusted by the mere thought of contact with a mouse. They are afraid to step on a small and nimble rodent. This is understandable. After all, rats and mice are inhabitants of basements and dumps. On their paws, they carry various infectious diseases, including cholera. Here in women it is not so much fear that speaks as common sense.
