Step 1

The existing differences of people in temperament, point of view, values often lead to clashes of interests and contradictions between them. It is important to remember that there are many options for a person's behavior in a conflict situation. Therefore, the outcome of a conflict situation depends on the behavioral strategy of a person in it.

Step 2

The most favorable way out of a conflict is a compromise. In such a situation, the parties find a solution through mutual concessions. As a rule, both participants are interested in a peaceful resolution of the situation, therefore, they give in to each other for the sake of maintaining friendly relations.

Step 3

The next best option for resolving a conflict situation is cooperation. With such a behavioral strategy, the parties seek to find mutually beneficial conditions under which the cause of the conflict would be exhausted. Thus, the parties to the conflict are looking for a solution that would satisfy the interests of both parties to the conflict. This resolution of the conflict is constructive, because ultimately the conflict between the parties ceases to exist.

Step 4

On the contrary, a situation in a conflict in which a person openly and negatively expresses his point of view, insists on his interests, refuses to listen to the opinion of another person, is called rivalry. It should be noted that such behavior of one of the parties to the conflict promises a deliberately unsuccessful outcome. It will be possible to resolve such a conflict situation provided that one of the parties to the conflict decides to cede its interests to the other.

Step 5

There is a fairly common behavior in a conflict situation, when one of the parties seeks to evade a showdown, giving up its point of view without negotiating with the other party. This behavior is called avoidance, but this method is not the best behavior in a conflict situation. Because the cause of the conflict is not discussed and the problem is not solved.

Step 6

Often there is a situation in which one side adjusts to the interests of the other. Such a side changes its point of view, renounces its views, often sacrificing its own interests. This behavioral strategy is called adaptation. It is not difficult to guess that in such a situation the interests of one of the parties to the conflict are infringed upon, therefore this option of human behavior in the conflict is not optimal.
