Everyone has instincts and habits. These are the attitudes of life that shape the character of a person, the characteristics of his behavior. But how are they different? And is there any way you can change them to be happier?

Today there are a huge number of psychological schools that study a person. There are many views on internal programs, but there are general principles that are characteristic of most teachings. These are the statements below.

What are instincts?

Instincts are programs of human behavior that are very often unconscious. They are inherent not in every individual representative, but in the whole species. All people have an instinct for self-preservation, reproduction, hunger. Thanks to these principles, humanity has survived on Earth.

Instincts have been formed by hundreds of generations, cultivating those qualities that are necessary for further development. Self-preservation made it possible to hide from enemies, and then create weapons to defend themselves. At the same time, an inner sense of danger appeared, and the number of accidents for the species became not critical.

Even babies have the ability to feel hunger, they are born with it. And it also helps to gain strength. Certain body signals allow you to know, they say that hunger has appeared, and these sensations stimulate a person to work, develop and improve themselves. And the instinct of procreation helps to maintain and increase the population on the planet, which also contributed to survival.

Habits

A habit is also a program of life, but it is formed in each specific individual. Experience accumulates in the process of being on the planet, and it already helps to create habits. For example, a person's daily schedule can become a habit. Someone wakes up early in the morning, while others prefer to sleep until lunchtime. These are not innate qualities, but acquired ones.

Habits range from how you eat to folding your socks. A person lives using habits constantly. They usually begin to form from childhood. One has only to repeat some manipulations for some time, and it is already a habit.

Today, all repetitive actions can be divided into harmful, beneficial and neutral. Addiction to alcohol, drugs, smoking, overeating is considered clearly negative. But the attitude towards programs is formed in a specific environment. Today it seems bad, but in other historical realities, or in a few hundred years, similar things may be positive.

There is a theory that changing or creating a new habit can be done within 21 days. If you perform a new action every day, then after this period it will become habitual, enter into life and even become necessary. It is only important to highlight unnecessary programs, figure out how to replace them and consistently do it differently for three weeks.

Instincts and habits have different origins. It is impossible to change the instinct at the level of a specific person. Habit is subject to people, which means it has less impact on existence.
