So, the first thing to do is to admit to yourself that this habit is really harmful and gives you some discomfort. Stop convincing yourself that you enjoy, say, smoking, overeating, shopping addiction, Internet addiction, or drinking alcoholic beverages. Understand that this is destroying you.

Do not rush from one extreme to another, gradually reduce to a minimum the daily number of cigarettes smoked, hours spent in front of a computer monitor, or glasses of alcohol you drink. Methods that offer to abruptly abandon a bad habit, of course, have a place to be, but such radical methods are not suitable for everyone and do not always work and may even aggravate the situation. Also, do not immediately take on the elimination of all habits at once - get rid of each one in turn.

Try to motivate yourself. Find books or articles that reveal the depth of your problem. Calculate how much money you invest each month to damage your health. Read the stories of people who have successfully overcome this problem.

Try to replace a bad habit with a good one, in some cases this also works. Start learning a new language, reading books, and taking time out to the gym or jogging. Choose the appropriate reward method and compliment yourself after every good day.

Another good option is to set a "word price". For example, you have a problem with overeating. You know that this is bad for the health of your body and your appearance in general, so you decide to change the situation. You can do this: just tell yourself that you do 200 squats, run 5 kilometers, give money to a homeless person, and so on, there are countless options. The next difficulty is to keep the word given to yourself in case of failure. If self-control is difficult or you are afraid not to cope, ask for help from family and friends, or just make a bet.

If the first attempt is unsuccessful, do not despair and give up. Try again and again, find new ways to eradicate bad habits! Remember that this is only your decision and no one is as interested in this as you are.
