Even a calm, cold-blooded person often experiences a variety of emotions. However, he does not always allow himself to show them, especially in public. And not only negative emotions, but also positive ones. After all, a violent, emotional reaction to an event is considered an indicator of bad manners. Few people want to be branded as an ill-mannered, unrestrained person, so people are forced to suppress emotions. Is it necessary to do this?

Why Suppressing Emotions Is Bad for Your Health

Why is it harmful to suppress emotions? There is a simple and figurative comparison. Imagine a steam boiler with a hermetically sealed lid and safety valve. When the water in the boiler boils and steam starts to form, its pressure gradually builds up. But the lid does not come off because the excess steam is released to the outside through the valve. What happens if the valve is closed? Over time, the steam pressure will become so great that it will rip off the lid. Similar processes take place in the human body, where instead of steam - emotions, and instead of a lid - the work of many systems, primarily the nervous and cardiovascular.

If you keep emotions in yourself all the time, a moment will surely come when the body will not withstand the accumulated nervous overstrain, with all the ensuing consequences. Therefore, at least sometimes it is necessary to give vent to emotions. For this, some people visit sports sections, because standing in sparring, you can throw out negative emotions.

In addition, you can express your emotions in a rather restrained manner, without attracting the attention of others, and even more so, without causing them anxiety.

Is it necessary to suppress emotions

Suppressing negative emotions does not solve the problem, but only exacerbates it. A person in life often has to do something that does not bring joy, communicate with people who are unpleasant to him, etc. Naturally, this causes negative emotions that gradually build up. And if you carefully suppress them, instilling in yourself that you need to endure, you need to be restrained, in addition to the above-described harm to health, it will be very difficult to solve the problem that has arisen, which causes the appearance of these emotions. For example, in such a situation, you should look for a new place of work or, under any plausible pretext, reduce to a minimum communication with annoying people. Instead, a person suffers, and thus only harms himself. The problem becomes chronic.

Remember that everything is good in moderation. Patience must also have a limit.

Expressing emotions is the most common and natural thing. Of course, one cannot thoughtlessly follow their lead, but one should not be like a soulless mechanism either. If you are unhappy with something, it is better to say it right away, and in a polite manner. Restraining in the manifestation of emotions, you accumulate negative thoughts, which in the future can splash out in an aggressive form.
